Federal consumer Protection and help with Lemons
Because
product quality is a consistent concern and lemon cars abound,
the Federal Government has provided several publications
to help you locate and use appropriate resources and services.
Under the Uniform Commercial Code: A
consumer has the right to a refund or replacement of a defective product. However, the act does not
define "Lemon" and obtaining a refund may require a court decision.
The Federal Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, regulated by the
Federal Trade Commission (FTC), provides for the award of
attorney fees from the manufacturer if an individual has to
sue to replace a defective product (lemon).
Additionally, many state Lemon Laws also provide for attorney fees.
